Rapid and reliable lab analysis is highly important in the diagnosis and therapeutic management of many diseases. The Clinical Institute of Medical and Chemical Laboratory Diagnostics is the main service provider and performs a broad range of tests on blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid and other biological materials for the hospital and external referring physicians. Our core competencies are diagnostics for congenital and acquired metabolic diseases, blood coagulation disorders and the detection of micronutrients and drugs.
The institute operates a highly automated central lab that is open around the clock and several specialized labs that carry out complex testing procedures. These specialized labs include a clinical mass spectrometry lab, a molecular biology lab and a metabolism lab, which works together with the Department of Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine on rare metabolic diseases.
The nine specialties of the institute cover the complete range of modern lab diagnostics and are located at three different sites.
The uniqueness and the added value of our clinical institute are the result of the symbiosis between patient care, research and education. The department is jointly operated by the Medical University of Graz and the Styrian Hospital Association (KAGes). This interdisciplinary cooperation between both providers at the University Hospital Graz site is also reflected on our website. More information on patient care can be found at the University Hospital Graz website.
